How to Get Doula Support:
A Step-By-Step Guide

  • All pregnant and postpartum Medi-Cal members are eligible.

  • You do not need a referral or approval  from your medical provider to work with a doula.

  • Doula services are at no cost to you.

  • Doulas offer care during pregnancy, birth, and after the baby is born.

  • Support is also available for miscarriages, stillbirths, and abortions.

Step 1

Call your Managed Care Plan's Member Services to ask for doulas contracted by your health plan.

Check the back of your insurance card or find your managed care plan’s member services contact information below.

If you have not been assigned a Managed Care Plan, call Medi-Cal Member Services: 855-839-7613 or view the DHCS Medi-Cal doula directory.

Step 2

Contact a doula on your health plan.

Step 3

Confirm the doula meets your needs.

Step 4

Schedule your appointment with your doula and begin receiving doula care.

Due to the high demand for approved doula providers, families seeking doula care directly through Medi-Cal or their Managed Care Plans may face challenges in being matched with a doula.
